Over 600,000 people have illegally entered the United States without being caught by border agents in the 2023 fiscal year, according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

This issue has remained a long-standing challenge for the Department of Homeland Security.

“The phenomenon of gotaways is something that has been a challenge for the department of homeland security for decades,” Mayorkas said. (Trending: Obama’s Ignorant Remarks On Israel)

Shifting blame from the Administration, he added, “In fact, it is a powerful example of a broken immigration system.”

In addition, 900,000 migrants were allowed into the country legally under humanitarian parole, making a total of 1.5 million migrants crossing the border in just the last year.

The number of “gotaways” since President Biden took office in 2021 is estimated to be around 1.7 million.

The situation continues to remain a great concern, with over 1,000 people per day still crossing the border.

“These are individuals whose identities & purpose we do not know,” CBP Chief Jason Owens posted on X.

“That is why you need every Border Patrol agent to be in the field and on patrol,” he said.

Arizona has been particularly affected, with thousands of migrants being apprehended in recent weeks.

Additionally, a group of around 5,000 migrants recently departed from Tapachula, Mexico, heading for the US border after failing to receive transit papers.
