Colorado Congressman Ken Buck, who recently announced he wouldn’t seek re-election due to his disappointment with the Republican Party, testified on behalf of former President Trump in a 14th Amendment hearing.

The hearing focused on whether Trump’s actions during the January 6 riots violated the amendment’s clause on insurrection.

Buck described the chaotic scene, and expressed the danger faced by lawmakers.

“A police officer came to the microphone and said that tear gas had been dispersed. And we were advised that there were gas masks under our seats, and we should deploy those gas masks,” Buck recalled. “There was clear indication that there was a danger at that point.”

“I came back to my office rather than the secure committee room, and I saw on TV what was going on and I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, there are a lot of people out there,’” he said.

Trump’s attorneys used Buck’s testimony to criticize the House Select Committee on Jan. 6, claiming the committee’s report was incomplete and biased.

Buck agreed that the report was an exercise to support Democratic impeachment efforts against Trump.
