Four Iranians, considered “special interest aliens,” have been apprehended in Texas by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) since the beginning of the month.
One Iranian man in his 40s voluntarily surrendered to border protection agents after illegally crossing the southern border.
CBP has also apprehended two Lebanese nationals and an Egyptian man, all considered “special interest aliens.” (Trending: Meet The Ultra Rich Megadonors Behind Democrats)
Additionally, 19 Iranians and 17 Syrians have been apprehended in the Rio Grande Valley Sector.
These apprehensions come amidst concerns of security and potential terrorism after recent events in Israel.
The Department of Homeland Security warns that terrorists and criminal actors may exploit the current security environment to enter the United States.
“Terrorists and criminal actors may exploit the elevated flow and increasingly complex security environment to enter the United States,” wrote the DHS.
“Individuals with terrorism connections are interested in using established travel routes and permissive environments to facilitate access to the United States,” they added.
