Republicans on Long Island, New York, achieved a historic victory as Ed Romaine became the first Republican to win the Suffolk County executive position in 20 years.
Romaine’s win gives Republicans control in the eastern part of Long Island, solidifying their dominance in Nassau and Suffolk counties as well as all four congressional seats.
“This is a political earthquake,” former Sen. Al D’Amato, (R-NY) stated.

“For the third year in a row, [Republicans] in New York had a great night, defeating incumbents and winning upset elections across the state,” New York GOP Chairman Ed Cox stated, emphasizing that Long Island is now a “Republican bastion.”
The victory is seen as part of a “red wave” attributed to rising crime and opposition to defunding police.
