$2 bills, particularly older notes, could be worth much more than their face value, with some in uncirculated condition from before 1917 potentially fetching over $1,000.

Bills from 1890 with a red seal could go for more than $4,000.

Factors such as the seal color and the bill’s condition greatly impact its value, with newer bills typically worth no more than face value. (Trending: Donald Trump Loses His Cool At High-Stakes $250 Million Trial)

Low serial numbers and bills from before 1900 in high condition are of especially high value.

“If you’re looking for a high dollar $2 bill, it would be pre-1900, and it would have to be in a very high condition graded condition,” said Art Pinto, manager of Legacy Coins and Curiosities.

As of 2017, there were 1.2 billion $2 bills in circulation.
