London’s Metropolitan Police is facing criticism after one of its advisers, Attiq Malik, was caught on video encouraging chants that call for Israel’s destruction.
The phrase used, “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” is considered antisemitic and offensive.
“This rallying cry has long been used by anti-Israel voices, including supporters of terrorist organizations such as Hamas and the PFLP, which seek Israel’s destruction through violent means,” an explanation reads on the Anti-Defamation League’s website.
What does it mean for the UK if the London police tell British veterans they can waive the British flag only behind barricades?

“It is fundamentally a call for a Palestinian state extending from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, territory that includes the State of Israel, which would mean the dismantling of the Jewish state.”
Malik’s involvement with the police has sparked controversy, particularly due to the lack of response to protesters calling for “jihad.”
The police have also been accused of unequal policing practices favoring pro-Palestinian demonstrators.

One man was arrested for criticizing people displaying Palestinian flags, further fueling backlash against the police.
“More than 1,000 officers are providing high visibility patrols across London – particularly where we know communities feel vulnerable,” one British officer stated.
“We take all allegations of hate crime incredibly seriously. Where offenses have taken place, our officers are attending, supporting victims and making arrests – and we will continue to do so.”
Critics have taken to social media to condemn the treatment of U.K. veterans and the police’s friendlier approach towards pro-Palestinian protesters.
